The client: Large software company
This company has managed projects that drove 18,000 parked domains and turned them into 15 Million queries of web search traffic a month. LG Consulting implemented an initiative to convert public facing websites to not only search their specific sites but also to search the web. This greatly reduced the percentage of web traffic that left their website to search with a third party web portal.
The solution:
Our complete approach to architecture began with a thorough analysis of how individual groups operated as well as how companywide interactions occured. This analysis provided a key input in designing the optimum architecture for their organization. This approach impacted document library, workflow, polices, permissions and record retention schedule design.
We first implemented a broken link redirection program, where the company utilized the broken links content to drive 30 Million queries a month into targeted searches that greatly enhanced the user's experience. This often provided search results that included the users' desired destination in the top ten links presented. Our approach and code not only benefited the company, but resulted in the creation of a software design tool kit that that company offered to site administrators in the general public to implement on their own sites.
We also utilized techniques to provide look, feel and navigation that conveyed the desired organizational message while also addressing performance and a smooth user interaction.
Our experts engineered an integrated a search solution that incorporated content types, metadata, requirements, filters, and indexing to optimize what is searched and what isn't.
The result:
This SharePoint project provided benefits addressing multiple considerations. Who were the users? What were their goals when searching and pulling items from the site? What were their goals when contributing to the site?
