The client: Large software company in Redmond
The challenge:
Many internet users have entered a url address, however it isn’t exactly quite right. For example, LG Consulting’s web address is http://www.lgconsult.com, but when you type in http://www.lcosult.com you are redirected to a web property that has no association to LG Consulting. Not only does this cause customer confusion because they thought they typed in the correct address, but it could also result in lost revenue either through non completed transactions or lost advertising revenue.
The solution:
LG Consulting delivered functionality that was able to understand the incorrect url and make a recommendation based on the url entered. In other words, if http://www.lcosult.com (the incorrect url) was entered it would look up a reference to this site in a table and suggest the correct url of http://www.lgconsult.com. LG Consulting delivered the project through a dedicated consisting of a project manager, a SQL DBA / DEV and a Technical Architect. The project was delivered in a little over 4 months – on time and on budget. The project manager was responsible for keeping the project on schedule, raising awareness of issues, driving decision making and ensuring all deliverables were of top quality. The SQL DBA/ DEV was responsible for ensuring the appropriate server setup was executed appropriately, the right environment was enabled and the applications were developed and rolled out into production correctly. The Technical Architect created the Technical Design document, the infrastructure installation guide, a number of architecture documents (logical, physical), failover / disaster recovery documentation, monitoring guide and additional instructions for the overall implementation.
The result:
Through the successful delivery of this project, the client spent a little under $300k however was able to recognize significant cost reductions and revenue generators. On the cost reduction side, the client was able save $3 million in development and support costs for rogue applications. On a revenue generation side, our client was (at the time this article was written) able to generate over $12 million in opportunity revenue through the delivery of calls to action and clicks through to the expected end action.
